THERE IS A PLACE
by Selia Qynn 7/23/93

Her mother died of a broken heart when she was very young.
Her daddy was a drunkard who could not hold his own.
And happy ever after just did not come to be.
An orphan forever and all so suddenly
Memories of mamma weigh heavy on her mind.
On her lap in a rocking chair, she heard her mother sigh,
She said, "I can't go on with this. It is so very hard.
I've got a husband somewhere, and 6 kids in the yard."
"I'm so alone and so afraid that this is all in vain.
Please forgive me, child of mine, I am in so much pain.

There is a place somewhere, I'm told,
Where streets are paved with gold.
And I'll lay my burden down
And come in from the cold.

She works hard in the orphanage, the children must be fed.
She cries herself to sleep at night, with questions in her head.
Is there a place somewhere? And is my mother there?
I wonder if she waits for me, I wonder if she cares.
And somewhere in her dreams, her mother calls her name,
"Yes, my dear, I wait for you, I'm sorry for your pain.

There's a place somewhere for you,
Where skies are brighter blue,
Where dreams awaken all the time
Aand really do come true."

Years go by and seasons fly and soon the girl is grown.
A husband - a baby girl - a dream to call her own.
But dreams don't always turn out, and so she waits alone,
Sitting in a rocking chair, listening for the phone.
She tells her daughter softly, "Don't let this be your fate."
"You have a life ahead of you, don't let it slip away."

"There's a place somewhere for you,
Where skies are brighter blue,
Where dreams awaken all the time
And really do come true."
"There's a place somewhere, I'm told,
Where streets are paved with gold,
And I'll lay my burden down
And come in from the cold."

"But first, it's mine to raise you and keep you 'til you're grown,
So you will never know of the abandonment I've known."
"I pray for strength to carry on so you won't know this pain."
"It's hard as hell but it's the only way to break the chain."
And for these things she told me, I love my mother so.
Heaven holds a special place, when it's her time to go.
