SARAH
by Selia Qynn & Michael Bonner 5/26/98

Sarah, Sarah fair, why did you depart?
And leave this place the shape of you
Embedded in my heart?

You opened up this icy heart;
And now I sing your song.
The irony is deafening,
Now that you are gone.
Now this open heart feels empty.
And it's cold here in the dark.
With only memories in the place
Where you have left your mark.

Sarah, Sarah fair, why did you depart?
And leave this place the shape of you
Embedded in my heart?

I have felt regret that ran so deep,
I could not find the end.
I would have followed you, if I only knew,
To see your face again.
There's a place of surrender between hope abandoned
And acceptance yet to come.
A clear view gives the peace, I found,
To let the river run.

Sarah, Sarah fair, why did you depart?
And leave this place the shape of you
Embedded in my heart?

A sound, a step, a breath, a kiss... I feel you here today.
So thanks and thanks and ever thanks is all that I can say.

Sarah, Sarah fair, why did you depart?
And leave this place the shape of you
Embedded in my heart?
